Know Me.

I’ve been painting since I can remember. I think in pictures. Whether I’m using watercolors, oil on canvas, mixed media, or a digital canvas, I’m at home when I’m in the studio.

good to know.

Born in Dundee, Scotland and raised in Houston, Texas, Karelyn has traveled, studied and exhibited as an artist nationally and internationally. Her work is strongly influenced by a treasured time spent in a tiny atelier in Bonnieux, France, where the sights, scenes and textures of that country’s sunlit Luberon valley inspired her love of color and form.

Work Experience.

Karelyn has been illustrating, designing, and teaching for the past 20 years.  Her work has appeared on book covers, in picture books, and in educational readers. She has collaborated with manufacturers  across multiple market segments from greeting cards to textiles to tabletop.

She is a part time assistant professor at the Parsons School of Design in NYC and a visiting professor at The Kings College.

Education.

Karelyn Siegler is a classically trained artist whose discipline and passion for beauty shape her popular illustrations.  An MFA graduate of the New York Academy of Art Karelyn has studied in the United States and Europe. Karelyn’s educational initiatives spark curiosity and imagination in children.  Her humanitarian efforts serve underserved communities, integrating math literacy and arts education to promote positive learning outcomes.

Travel.

I have traveled to South Africa, India, and Taiwan to teach children in townships, rural villages, and universities. Each place has opened my eyes to different strengths and challenges. Each child that I’ve met has a special gift that is unique to them.

Dance.

Throughout my travels, I’ve seen the children dance. It makes life easier and gives them freedom of expression and a sense of community.  Especially the dancers in the townships of Mamelodi, South Africa. In Kuppam, India, the Bharatanatyam dancers are vibrant and tell stories with their movements.

the landscape.

Much of my inspiration comes from nature. Noticing the colors, the shadow patterns, or the changing light as it falls gently across the land.

Music.

Music inspires creative thinking and promotes a sense of well being. It boosts my imagination and gives me new ideas.
